The Therapeutic Massage curriculum prepares graduates to work in direct client care settings providing manipulation / massage of the soft tissue structures of the body to prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort, muscle spasm, and stress, and to promote health and wellness. Additionally, the program can provide an Associate degree for individuals desiring an opportunity for career enhancement.
Through the bridging program, a currently Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist receives 24 semester hours of credit toward the A.A.S. degree. The remaining course work to complete the A.A.S. in Therapeutic Massage requires 42 additional semester hours of work outlined below.
Advanced Standing
The general admission requirements of the College and of the MTH program apply to persons seeking admission into the MTH program with advanced standing. Those applying for advanced standing must have previously completed a Therapeutic Massage educational program and are currently credentialed as a Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist. Credit may be granted for the following courses, dependent on the level and combination of credentials:
MTH 110 , MTH 120 , MTH 125 , MTH 130
Students will be awarded a grade of “T” and credit hours for the courses are awarded. No quality points are awarded and the grade is not included in the grade point average.
Massage Therapists satisfying the requirements for Advanced Standing will be admitted to the MTH Bridging program. Students must take 25% from the required semester hours of the degree to meet the residency requirements of Davidson-Davie.
Technical Standards
In addition to Davidson-Davie requirements and course objectives, there are professional standards that encompass communication, motor skills, sensory and cognitive ability and professional conduct that are essential for the competent study and practice of therapeutic massage. Admission Requirements
Applicants for admission to the Therapeutic Massage program must have graduated from high school or have an Adult High School Diploma or have passed the High School Equivalency with an equivalency certification which meets minimum requirements set by the State of North Carolina. Official high school transcript and copy of AHS Diploma/High School Equivalency Certificate and official college transcripts, where applicable, must be on file in the Admissions Office. Students must be at least 18 years old by the first day of MTH 110.
Transfer Credit for Therapeutic Massage Courses
The decision regarding transfer credit for therapeutic massage courses is made by the Director of the program in consultation with members of the faculty and the appropriate academic administrator. Syllabi for courses for which credit is requested will be required.Transfer credit must be evaluated by the program and is not guaranteed.
