Recreation and Leisure Studies Certificate: Emphasis in Recreation Facilities Maintenance

This certificate prepares individuals to maintain recreation facilities in diverse environments. The program is designed to meet the needs of students interested in the private, public, commercial, or therapeutic environment. This certificate will focus on aspects of recreation facilities maintenance.

Upon successful completion of this program, the student should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills with coworkers in the role of a recreation professional.
  2. Use critical thinking to recognize, analyze, and solve problems related to field of recreation and leisure studies.
  3. Display professionalism by projecting a positive attitude, working as a team member, showing initiative and responsibility, and displaying sensitivity to cultural diversity.

Technical Standards

In addition to DCCC requirements and course objectives, there are professional standards that encompass communication, motor skills, sensory and cognitive ability and professional conduct that are essential for the competent study and practice in the recreation and leisure studies field. These technical standards are published in the program student handbook and/or are available from program faculty. Recreation and Leisure Studies Technical Standards  

Admission Requirements

Applicants for admission to the Recreation and Leisure Studies program must complete the College’s assessment process and achieve acceptable scores or been exempt from placement.
