Social and Human Services Technology, Certificate: Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (High School Career and College Promise (CCP))

The Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) CCP Certificate is designed to equip students with foundational knowledge and skills for entry-level positions in Direct Support Professional (DSP) roles. This certificate provides specialized training relevant to institutions and agencies that offer services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Upon successful completion of all courses in this pathway, students will be awarded a Certificate in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities from Davidson-Davie Community College. This program provides a stepping stone into further coursework toward the AAS Generalist track in Social and Human Services, or additional certificates and diplomas.

Career Pathways

Graduates of the IDD CCP Certificate program may qualify for entry-level positions in direct support, community services, social services, education, and rehabilitation agencies, assisting in creating inclusive and supportive environments for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Progression Requirements

A student must earn a grade of “C” or better in all Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities courses to progress in the program.

Technical Standards

In addition to Davidson-Davie requirements and course objectives, there are professional standards that encompass communication, motor skills, sensory and cognitive ability and professional conduct that are essential for the competent study and practice of human services.
